@Ylecun perpetuates false dichotomy here, between nature & nurture, without presenting data. Is there any evidence primates have fewer innate priors than mountain goats? Any proof that more innate priors actually entails less adaptivity? Better priors can yield *better* learning.https://twitter.com/ylecun/status/1180171721481113602 …

Also there are readily available examples of tasks which statistical learning including deep learning cannot handle without exhaustive search. Take the very simple example of Sokoban. The only people who claimed to have solved this are

thanks, david. 'Solved' would be much too strong of a word to use though. We show shortcomings of existing approaches and show a promising way forward which is based on learning models and flexible inference. Much remains to be done.

In terms of games, there is actually a whole missing piece currently, which is not hand coding of human knowledge / rules / gofai, and not differentiable sampling from probably distributions and no one seems to know what it is. It could be both, or something different.

@GaryMarcus I liked point you made in your chat with@lexfridman. Humans learn so much from pain they suffer and how they process it. Even empathy is product of pain. Robots can't process pain till they inflict or suffer pain.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Would it be more interesting to come together as a global community to create awesome machines that perform machine tasks? Like self optimizing electricity grids and solar energy collectors. What if we stop debating about babies and cats and got to work building new industries?

I agree with this. Being an expert in machine learning doesn't make one an expert on learning.
