Different ML researchers have different degrees of optimism, but the position that current methods will carry us all the way to general AI seems to be rare. And in public, AI skepticism has always been a much more popular position to take.
popular? please. i would like specific examples of specific limitations, not generalities.

I don't think they should answer your question until you tell them which limit of GOFAI (your approach) you are willing to acknowledge. The limits of GOFAI are legendary.

actually, the common sense chapter of Rebooting AI is filled with examples of limits of GOFAI. so many people are eager to judge me without actually reading what I have to say.
