Lecun, Bengio and Hinton did not impose the DL by publishing books to denounce the limits of ML but by incredible DL performance. If you can demonstrate that the hybrid model is better than the DL, then it will be a natural choice. Do you have a concrete example hybride model?

Understanding symbolics may be a step beyond AI if experiential data is required. That sort of AI may not work until an AI has a physical body or at least a virtual environment to exist in.
