I've done my share of criticizing "overpromsing" in AI and totally agree with you that it's a huge problem. But I don't think this particular blog post from DM is a good example....

The last paragraph, with its "If" qualifier, sounds like something any of us might put in an NSF "Broader Impacts" section. Compared to other examples of overpromising, it's pretty tame.
