      just reporting the facts here. not at all surprised that DM losing money. I am surprised by the magnitude an acceleration of the loss. Current AI has been overhyped and #’s like these in conjunction with less-than-anticipated progress in driving & chatbots could have an impact.

      no; my forthcoming book lays out the case for overhype. (driverless cars and chatbots are good examples of domain where promises from several years ago have not yet been met; there are many more.)

          There's no correlation between the cost of fundamental science and the success of its discoveries. Expenditure is not a measure of failure in the domain of fundamental research.
