Focusing on SOTA here misses the entire point. The point is that plain deep learning can get very far even in games that appear to require tree search algorithms.
alphastar w tree search would crush the new treeless system every time. your claim of “very far” is meaningless in that context.

"Very far" meaning competitive with a normal human. That's sufficient for general intelligence, after all, don't all humans have general intelligence and not just the Go masters?

Humans do not have the kind of MCTS tree search algorithm comparable to that found in DeepMind's AlphaStar. Is this not obvious?
