Fair enough; there's definitely a big PR angle to some of these things. My main concern is that between Alexa and these AI grand challenges, people are overlooking an awful lot of utility.

I don’t even think Starcraft is a “grand challenge”; that too is just part of the PR game. But yes current AI is useful, even if it isn’t really anywhere near AGI. Who disagrees?
