If only that feedback loop with the unprecedented speed and scale could be used to, say, mass mobilize citizens to tackle major problems. Like climate change. Or political corruption.

Amplification is one issue, but the true problem is alignment. When everybody focuses on the same topic at the same time, then other topics are getting neglected. Society needs ways of balancing attention among different topics. Some need to listen to those that don’t cry loudly.
