It's not only chess, but the same algorithm also learned to be the best in Go and Shogi. It's not a huge leap but it's something, maybe a bit overhyped but progress nevertheless.

All down to incentives. Aka, what drives $, recognition, etc. Hyped statements get attention, sober less so.

Because that's how the game of science works: start simple, build models, make conjectures, change models, throw away models, iterate. Actually, do experiments. Easy to put forth sweeping notions, but it may be that arrows don't fall because they get tired.

Cause we're about meeting in the mid? towards an ACI, Artificial Common Intelligence... based on replacing instead of augmenting, from digital nomad to digital idleness... empty into a two-tier society what maybe goes too far here;

Could it be that a closed system intelligence does not sufficiently understand the challenge of an open systems intelligence to evaluate it as a higher form of the intelligence architecture?

Maybe it is just the availability of data for reinforcement learning.
