I think that solving driving is harder than solving chess, because it contains myriads of edge cases. The fact that humans often deal poorly with these edge cases as well does not excuse the AI in our eyes.

Tesla's AP 2 has made huge gains in the 1.75 years I've had my car, but I still treat it like a new teen driver. When we did strictly symbolic AI we were stymied by brittleness. For all the advances, DL is still brittle, just in different ways.
