      All valid points. You probably aren’t for stifling discussion, either, though. Posted your tweet not as an endorsement per se for my arguments, but an endorsement for considering them. Totally agree that DeepMind has many people with differing views, just as Facebook does.

      Please don’t turn the symbols vs connectionist debate into an emotional one. This is why it has been so hard to innovate in this hybrid space. Both sides reject each other’s ideas and conceptual progress stalls

      I think it's clear to all that there is a continuum between both positions, rather than an uncrossable rift. Meaningful research can and should be pursued in this space, and is. I concur that presenting either side as an "us vs. them" position helps no one.

      What has always baffled me is that the hybrid position (which I have advocated throughout my career) is the intermediate position. Symbols all the way down doesn’t cut it either, as I said this am in Medium
