I read the article and it's still unclear to me who you're arguing against. I don't know of anyone serious arguing that DL by itself will lead to AGI. The single quote from Ng doesn't claim that. Your argument of too few discussions on the limits of DL seems like a strawman.
And whether or not people think deep learning will get us to AGI, the important question remains: what are its limitations, such that we might try to remedy them. Can’t improve, without reflection.

Agreed. In my experience, researchers actively avoid talk about paths to AGI. Partly out of fears of hyping, and being grouped with kooks and cranks. But also because the pathways are still so speculative. Focus on incremental wins with no long term goal seems to be the standard
