No, that's speculation vs science.

Totally agree with you on requiring a field for advancing AGI. In addition, I suggest Marvin Minsky’s Society of mind and the Emotion Machine books.

So how many afternoons do you need?

I’m sorry, but was that how WE were made? Abstract knowledge leads you to the right algorithms, but is by no means a prerequisite for an AGI itself. It should be thought of as a field though, not an individual unit; you got that right.

How will you know when you've made one? Have a conversation with it? What are the objective criteria for determining an AGI?

How many will we have "killed" accidentally by deletion before that point? ;)

How human language representation works for a machine? It's one of the hardest problems on the planet. Equivalent to the science behind E=MC2? The secret's not more engineering tweaks or brute force .......

Would you consider a wide array of sensors as equivalent or a prerequisite at a minimum for that "vast array of prior, abstract knowledge?" I'd argue that we don't have nearly enough "sensory" data to even start to approach the General Intelligence problem.
-
Agreed. IMHO what we humans call intelligence are those behaviors that allow us to survive and thrive in the real world; in short, the human-centric definition of intelligence assumes embodiment. And as such, alien species would have very different measures of intelligence.
