Connectionist imperialism? After half a century of symbolist domination? Seriously? I don't criticize people for working on approaches that I think are misguided. I work on approaches that I believe in and show results when they work. This is engineering, good results matter.
Right. The problem is the imperialism of deep learning pioneers, eg Lecun et al 2015 Nature, which called for replacing “rule-based manipulation of symbolic expressions with operations on large vectors”.
