But that analogy to me implies to stop voting for Republicans. I was already not going to do that. If you can convince your political opponents to do it, then it’s not a strike, it’s just successful polticking.

No, I think he means a real, proper general strike, of the kind Americans simply aren't used to, because Americans have been ground down by decades of weakening of the labor movement and labor's bargaining power. As we say, political democracy demands economic democracy.
