I think this is an important point because it’s gonna be hard to emulate our human intelligence without reckoning with the fact that so much of evolution / natural selection had to do with *being in a physical body*. So much of what we term “intelligence” is how our brains dealt

Sure. Why wouldn't it? Our evolution-tuned DNA installs every other tool and capability in our bodies for dealing with the world, why would the brain be any different? There's way too much to be learned if the starting point is a blank slate.
