I am NOT trying to hasten another AI winter; I want the field to stave one off, by reducing hype, & considering new models that incorporate symbol-manipulation and innateness (often too quickly dismissed). You have my deepest respect on all that. It's really the issue of denialism that I'm getting at. We face huge social, economic. political & security challenges from the rise of
#AI, whether you think HLAI = 2029 or 2069. "It's all a lot of hype" is the wrong message. -
Partly agree, though I think we should gear our policies around a realistic understanding the timing of various scenarios. More immediate problem is what do with unreliable AI, not superintelligence.
