"Across the GOP" was probably the wrong phrase. The claim is he'll appeal to even those marginal swing voters who sometimes go back and forth. To me he's just Tom Cotton with less neck.

Republicans are banking on being able to win by exciting the base, suppressing urban voters, and winning just enough states to hit 270 EC votes. They don’t have to appeal to the majority of the population m. They just need 270 EC votes.
