You're lucky to have free draining soil. Our soil is old leached slightly clayey consolidated dunes. A 'farmlet' so never soil prepped. Should have been deep ripped ripped, mole drained.
In some areas, highly organic top horizon with mulch has impeded drainage, low oxygen, wet.

An avocado seedling in such an area started to wilt due to phytopthora. Trunk injections only slowed progression. As an experiment I have drilled half a dozen or so 900 mm/3 feet x 50mm/2 inch holes in the root zone to drain the top horizon.
Next step - your daikon idea!🤔👍

Would it be too much effort to install a French drain around your grow field? It’s commonly used in buildings in areas with high water table.
Its a flat area with only a few seedlings - drain not worth it.
But back to basics with me - I will follow Chris' practice of cover crops to stabilise aggregates, open macropores, and daikon to drain wet top horizon.
