"Are palms trees?" is one of the most common questions I got as a palm biologist. ("Some are; some aren't" was my answer before before going the rabbit hole of what is a tree, what is wood, stem vs. trunk, etc., etc.)
Plants are way more diverse than most folks realize.

I may regret tweeting this, but I am pretty sure there is no scientific definition of a 'tree'.
I mean, generally, having wood, a single stem and being 2m or above is a pretty good bet. But when it comes down to it, I don't think there is anything formal!
