A bad rulebook can kill a game, or at least severely reduce the enjoyment of having to learn it. And this goes for text on cards and in narrative too. Get it checked, otherwise it is just embarrassing.

AND... take note of what the SdJ jury said this year. I’m glad they did, because it highlights the problem. Rulebooks can be an afterthought, with all the effort going into nice art or components, but if the rules aren’t clear, my time is being wasted as I have to look up answers

@beziergames could learn from this. The rules for Whistle Stop are discussed a lot on BGG. Especially the wording about moving your trains. Finally a FAQ was published but it doesn't make it much clearer. -
There are many publishers who this applies to. I have a few games from Bezier and they were ok, so it might depend more on the editor. Suburbia and CoMKL are ok as I remember.

I made the mistake of buying a game that I hadn't researched. Not only were the rules terrible, but the player order tokens were printed incorrectly. Put me off so much I could never bring myself to play the game!

I wish more reviewers would mention the quality of the rulebook, good or bad. Its important.
