Sorry, it’s a loaded question!
I notice I tend to swap jobs every 2-4 weeks. I start with story, then programming, but then I begin mixing it up: doing art, UI, redrafting story etc. It’s not linear at all for me. Imagine a spider’s web

I find, whilst this way isn't organised, I can tell a better story once the art’s in, get a better feel of tone when the music’s in, or come up with cool mechanics when the UI’s in. I reach a certain point and think “Okay. Now I need to think about UI 'cause this might not work."

Right now, I'm back doing art from a story redraft/ programming month. I reached a point where I was happy but NEEDED visuals. “How is environmental storytelling going to work with no art?” I can’t picture it properly, so I decided to start drawing it.

Now, I have better idea of the environment and what should be in there. It’s much easier, for me, to add details to a room visually. "Let’s add a poster there. Let’s carve some initials on that desk. Let’s hide a secret behind that locked drawer." My text alone was so stale.

Actual pen on paper? I plot out/ storyboard like that, but generally start with a text document before anything else.

For me (at least in the limited time I currently have) I tend to start on getting the programming done with some dev graphics, the move into the more arty side of things once I'm happy with how the gameplay is. Near the end though it sort of all just mashes together.

Yes! Dev graphics are very useful in the early stages. As I’m an artist, when I started, I didn’t bother with them and I’d draw the final thing. Then, the game would change completely and I’d never even use the art! Such a waste of time. Dev graphics are important for all :)

I write the "main ideas" about the story first : what it will be all about? Then I do some arts (idle characters and one background). I mostly used some code I've already done for other games or protos, I update it to fit with this new project.

When I have a ready proto, I work lineary : first scene from the story, until the last one. Sometimes I go back when I think something is missing, but not often. I used to work 5days/a week, mostly at night for a couple of hours, except on friday night and saturday afternoon.
