Pretty impressive how everyone is suddenly a coaching expert following those NA coaches announcement. I don't think anyone can assess the worth of a coach without having directly worked with him. The rest is PR.

And the people running the selection process have themselves a track record of coaching LoL pro teams at the highest level I suppose? If not the selection process is irrelevant, but if they do I guess it would be possible.
We have a team of people who review applications and yes some of them have a history of coaching, and playing at the pro level. That said, the ability to select good coaches does not hinge on having coached but having the ability to select the best coaches.

The ability to select a LoL coach hinges on having a top level of game understanding at a professional level, which is possible for a very few amount of people who worked for top level professional teams - and it's still a necessary but not sufficient condition

I am not denying that you can probably identify qualities that would make a good coach, but I highly doubt you can know of someone has good enough knowledge in League to coach a pro team.
