    The awesome thing about art is that it's a giant web of shared consciousness and influence. Everything someone sees over the course of their life influences visual art. Everything someone hears influences music. Mapping that out is an impossibility that makes it feel magical

    The trickiest part about crunch and the burnout that follows aren’t even the long hours. The exhaustion that comes with it makes you extremely isolated. When it happens to me, I barely see or talk to friends, I don’t do any fulfilling things that distract me from work.

    Dear player, Games have been and will always be political. Just like other art, our work does not exist in a vacuum. What players often call “pandering” is just us expressing and exploring themes we care about in the context of our game and the world we live in.

    One of the best things about being an indie game dev is being part of this large, beautiful community of other indie game devs — sharing advice, opportunities, skills, tools, having a network of peers who understand your experiences... The idea of hoarding knowledge is so gross

    1. This is a really fun exercise! 2. If you're an indie dev making your first pixel art platformer or Metroidvania, consider that smooth animations are insanely time-intensive and much less important than overall art style to potential players. And SMW still looks beautiful imo!

    We released patch 1.2 of today, and it includes a fix for the dreaded "the game thinks my companions are dead" bug, which I believe I spent more time investigating than I have for any other individual bug in my career (1/18)
