I tell people to stop worrying about futuristic runaway smart AI, because it's stupid current AI that will kill us, this is what I mean. Someone bought a product that *literally* text-matched the word "charity" as 'good' and "vodka" as 'bad' and is making hiring choices with it.https://twitter.com/kmlefranc/status/1221869659139366912 …

I don't mean to be mean, but it's pointing guns at people RIGHT now through police dispatch systems. The "wait till it has a gun" language is harmful silicon valley futurism because IT HAS A GUN RIGHT NOW

If the crap AI tells human workers to kill/deny medical care/build the coal plant/dump that stock etc, most people don't risk their jobs to refuse the AI instructions. We're an output device, an imperfect and laggy one, but a reliable actuator.

If you combine this with the tendency for people to feel more comfortable and not question taking orders from machines and authoritative systems in general than other humans it's even more dangerous.

Yes, it doesn't, but there's this misapprehension that the threat of AI is Glados, or Shodan, a malicious personhood based in technology; it's the shitty AI that are most deserving of fear and necessitate regulation. What will kill us is an AI that says "humans aren't employable"

It doesn’t even have to be right. It just has to be impossible to inspect, and then everyone can do whatever they like and blame it on the AI.
