Isn't Abby's entire side of the story with Lev about just that, finding solidarity with people and healing through shared empathy?
After that, she slowly doesn't wanna fight or kill anyone anymore. The character is not perfect at the end of the game, but in a "more optimistic" view of humanity, I imagine her becoming more and more compassionate in the years to come. At least that's how I felt about her.

This is what is conveyed, I agree. But having a narrative where the character needs to lose it all to reach this conclusion is a backwards view of humanity. This is not how humans are and the fact that we keep on feeding this false idea in 2020 is depressing (& lazy) imho.

But I agree, Ellie's story arc is worse. I guess she couldn't benefit from a good dicking to progress (sorry, I'm really disappointed at the backwards narrative.. too many tropes for me)
