Pirates of the Caribbean 3, a 2007 movie, is still ahead of most of today's blockbusters when it comes to overall visual performance. Anyway, Brie Larson is perfect for the role and I really want to see more of her in the future, just with more ambition to support the character.
PotC3 lacks a good narrative. It's confusing, weird, long. But, damn, the last hour is still epic as hell. Gore Verbinski did a wonderful work that aged very well.
Oh yeah, I'm just talking of the overall visual perf : direction, photo, VFX, colorimetry, etc. It's a freaking masterpiece on that side, imo. Verbinski is such a talented director, with a very strong sense of scenography. His work on these movies is so beautiful and playful.
(Btw, I'd love to see a superhero movie directed by him. Pretty sure it would turn out to be amazing)
