That pretty much sums it up. imo the first parts of the game often bored me or at least failed to interest me as much as I'd like :( I would'nt say that the ending of GR1 was disappointing, I'd say that it teased an epic sequel! But without that epilogue, we would'nt have it :(
I'm still confused about GR2. I truly loved some parts of it, and was deeply disappointed by some others. In a way, it's not the game I was expecting and I think the IP deserved better. But it's also pretty damn cool and the ending is absolutely wonderful.
To me, it really feels like their plans for GR2 were severely affected during production, and they probably realized a trilogy would not be possible. You can feel this is a (heavily?) reworked project in the end, but it still manages to be great, and that ending was perfect so...
Yeah I surely don't blame the team, of course. But as a fan I still feel disappointed. I truly would have loved a third one :(
