The head of BioNTec expects their Pfizer vaccine to be "up to" 75% effective against the B.1.617.2 variant (first identified in India). This compares with its 95% effectiveness against the original virus. That is a big difference.https://globalnews.ca/video/rd/61f79f68-b9de-11eb-92de-0242ac110007/?jwsource=twi …

We don't know yet whether infections in vaccinated people will turn into illness. Hopefully not. But the more this variant spreads, the more chance there is to develop more changes that further erode vaccine effectiveness. That's why it needs to be taken seriously.

What exactly is meant by effectiveness? Is it preventing the vaccinated person getting Covid or preventing serious illness? Thank you

Define what you mean by “effective “ please Dr Scally? Surely it’s north of 90% effective at preventing ICU admission and close to 100% effective from death? The 75% you Quote is simply symptomatic infection correct ?

Can't really comment on differences until you've seen the confidence intervals surround the estimates.

It is estimate. I would prefer to see the hard real data.
