This headline should actually say "Canada Destroys Indigenous Communities & Accelerates the Climate Crisis". This is heartbreaking 💔

  2. When you wake up in the “Greatest democracy the world has seen” after a witness-less trial abetted by oath-breaking jurors, a propagandist and liar receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and an already flawed voting system failing... I’m all like “Are you sure about that?”

  4. Cloud feedback loops are why the highest warming projections are NOT off the table We don’t understand everything about feedbacks-until then, 8.5 remains one of the possibilities

No, shale gas is not better than coal. Both are bad & we need to ban both. To choose between them is a false choice, and a distraction. To meet COP21 goals, we need to wean the world from all fossil fuels ASAP. are the future. And the future is now.

  7. Well, it looks like my birthday month is a record-breaker for Jan temps. Let’s do the math- born at 320 ppm CO2 (yup, I’m that old) Now it is 412 ppm That is a 30% change in our atmospheric heat trapping capacity for CO2...in my lifetime I guess that wasn’t hard to figure out

Ok. Since everyone is getting excited about ditching their ecosystem killing, chemical leeching, totally unnecessary manicured lawns - here's a thread of resources to give you tips and ideas about how to replace your lawn with native plants and grasses.

Despite the limited computing power available at the time, climate models from the 1970s provided accurate forecasts of global surface warming. Great N&V by

  12. And further, economic studies now put the lie to the claim that rapid action on climate change would hobble global economies--in fact, the economics point to a 2 degree world being the cheapest of all climate trajectories

Leaded gasoline, CFCs, mercury contamination...the list of “alarmism and crushing economic costs” goes on, as CO2 keeps ticking ever upwards and goes from manageable to catastrophic

We’ve been talking about methane release from thawing permafrost for decades, but science on this feedback was unclear Science is now pointing to potential large releases by mid-century, partially offsetting reductions in human emissions The only answer is more reduction, sooner

Excellent piece in Nature this week covering our recent paper on evaluating climate model performance. We found that 14 of 17 climate model projections published between 1970 and 2001 accurately projected future warming:

Good: methane leaks are being found. Bad: people were so cavalier about methane leakage a decade ago when it might have been at least in part prevented The Economist
