So, you believe Iran could not circumvent all safety measures with a high degree of confidence at not being caught? (and note "caught" means convincing EVERYONE)

Creating nuclear weapons is not something you can keep secret from a country like the US, let alone from the whole of NATO.

ok, at least I see where we disagree. I think its trivial to hide this stuff, if all one requires is reasonable doubt. So circumstantial evidence, or evidence from some sources doesn't count due to possible bias.

I also expect you underestimate how bad it would be if they did get nukes, and so are willing to accept that risk more easily.

No. I'm quite aware of what nukes can do. I just think that at the moment, the risk of Iran getting nukes is overblown by Netanyahu, and I'll continue to believe that until new information proves me wrong.

What risk do you see if Iran does get nukes?

I don't believe they'd attack Israel, as it'd result in the annihilation of Iran. (Despite common perceptions, the majority of people in Iran are not interested in ushering in the apocalypse; Iran is mostly young, secular folks, and soon the old Qom clerics will all be dead.)

With that said, I'm not willing to leave it to chance, so I think the right steps should be taken to ensure Iran doesn't acquire nukes. And the best way to achieve this is to allow its economy to bloom into a secular capitalist country with a Western culture.

This cannot happen if Iran remains stifled under sanctions, unable to modernise its economy and culture. All the sanctions do is strengthen the puritanical, Israel-hating religious elements.

Can you show me any country that is currently controlled by Islam, that is showing signs of becoming secular? Don't tell me you are one of those that blame it all on the "imperial west". Turkey, the one ray of hope, has practically proven the point.

I guess we differ in how we judge what "becoming secular" means. I think the "Arab Spring" convinced me that any change in Arab nations will likely be towards Islam instead of away from it, unless some drastic change happens.

I think you've got it completely backwards. I don't have the time to continue this discussion because I have to go to bed, but I suggest you read deeply about the changes occurring in Muslim countries. Since you bought up Saudi Arabia, start with this:https://www.financialexpress.com/world-news/saudi-arabia-appears-to-have-adopted-a-different-approach-to-reach-out-to-the-world/1154338/ …
