Hyperpartisanship is filling the vacuum left by eroded religion. Myths of good & evil have long been the organising force for human life, imbuing it with the meaning & structure of drama. But the narratives of religion no longer convince, so many now seek anchorage in politics.

To clarify, I am saying I don't think hyperpartisanship is anything new. From the U.S. Constitution onward, this has been a hyperpartisan'ed nation.
