I take your point, but all (human) life is problem-solving. And either we face each problem as they come, or incomprehensible forces (ice ages, asteroid impacts, the death of our sun, etc.) wipe away our cosy little parochial niche without second thought - the fate of most life.
Of course, our technology could well kill us. In fact, its (infinite) potency makes technology probably the most dangerous thing there is, now... aside from people. But the alternative is *certain* death.
