I agree with most of what you said. I'm uncertain that ridicule is solely a product of reason. It can be used as such, certainly but I can also see it as an emotive bonding technique. "Lets all laugh at the weirdos who aren't us".

I'm not sure that buys you much more. There is unreasoned criticism, it's all the rage. However, I take your point and cannot think of a better term which would be useful.

You're right. But it's important to note that, whatever his real reasons for criticising rationalism, he rationalises them.
