That's actually a faulty question; a category error. Meaning is a property of symbols. Life is (probably) not a symbol. So, asking for the meaning of life is like asking for the fragrance of anger.That's why it cannot be answered.
Whose purpose, though? Evolution's? To procreate. Our purpose? Whatever we want it to be.

Disagree. Many of us accept our own answers, because the question is easily answerable - but wholly dependent on the premises. I've already given you the atheist perspective. A Christian would just as easily answer this question by saying that the purpose of life is to please God
