I'm not conflating; I'm saying the notion that succumbing to social pressure = inherently problematic is clearly false by giving an example of when these people would not be crying about someone being fired.

You need better examples that parallel the facts of this case. Thus far you’ve concocted an implausible scenario and fantasized about an equivalent response in order to equate it to the facts. This is what’s called a false equivalency. So no - it’s not clearly false.

Calling for the death penalty for abortion is stupid, Ankush. It doesn't matter that some people see it as justified. If we seek to justify it through moral relativism, we could equally say that some people find throwing gays off buildings as justified.

Not sure who is advocating for that here. I’m laying out a clear and absolute difference. The gay dude did nothing to merit a death sentence - even by Christian conservative standards. This is all about the Overton window - which is necessarily internally relativistic.

"The gay dude did nothing to merit a death sentence - even by Christian conservative standards." -- neither has a woman who gets an abortion according to legal and Western moral standards.

True - but the opposing view is within mainstream. I agree that the death penalty for it isn’t.

His belief that women should be executed for having abortions shows that he is not very good at forming opinions, and since his job at the Atlantic involved being paid to offer his opinions, it's not surprising they decided to fire him. Think of his firing as due to incompetence.

He was hired because Goldberg thought his abortion comment was just an isolated bout of silliness. When it transpired that this wasn't so, and in fact the opinion was one that was deeply held, he was fired for his retardation.

It was a business decision, Ankush. It's not like a scientist being fired for stating facts. It's a guy fired from a job giving opinions at a modern-thinking magazine because he holds outdated opinions. He hasn't lost his voice; he can always get a job at a trad outlet.
