Cleopatra lived closer in time to the creation of Twitter than to the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The T. Rex lived closer in time to humans than to the Stegosaurus. These facts are counterintuitive because the mind foreshortens aeons due to limited processing power

The mind shortens other concepts of scale too. We understand the immensity of thousands better than we understand millions. "There are nearly thirteen million people in the world. Try to imagine that many people!" - Synecdoche, New York

Love that movie. Charlie Kaufman is my fave living filmmaker.

I once had a great time introducing one friend who said it was the greatest film of the decade to another friend who said it was the worst movie ever made. I personally quite like it.

Hah, yeah I've found that his films improve with each viewing due to their complexity. My original impression of Synecdoche was lukewarm, but it grew on me like Cotard's model of Manhattan.
