Yes, I'm aware of Bentham's work. The way I see it, any utilitarian system must avoid becoming monist (the sole arbiter of right and wrong), and must instead work in tandem with other frameworks, such as the golden rule, and various metrics of well-being conceptual & statistical
Just like @Monkeymorality, you don't distinguish between types of utilitarianism (i.e. rule vs act). That's why this conversation is pointless; you can make utilitarianism mean whatever you want it to.

Exactly. And the definitions seem to shift to fit whatever one's preexisting moral intuitions are. I haven't seen *anyone* adopt significant counterintuitive moral beliefs due to utilitarianism.

Look at the Effective Altruists - they're obviously good people, bless 'em, but their high level, brilliant, insightful utilitarianism led them to conclude that...they should try to use scientific research to make people's lives better. Er, okay?
