However, the poll assumes the existence of efficient interstellar or intergalactic space travel (as an alien invasion would necessitate it).

One pro of an alien invasion is that it could open up the possibility to have access to this tech sooner. But would it be worth the risk of total annihilation? Perhaps I should make another poll.

Perhaps they're just bored and looking for sport, like Predator. An alien species would need to be logical enough to possess the tech required to invade Earth, but beyond that could be guided by alien emotions that would seem as weird to us as laughter or honour would to them.

I reject your false dichotomy, and prefer "There is life on other planets, which will never reach us due to the vast distances between stellar systems." :-P

That kind of defeats the point of the poll :-P

Which do you prefer?

The aliens. Having to fight an extraterrestrial invasion would be terrifying, but it would also give life a sense of urgency and purpose, which would bring us all together as a species. Maybe it's what we need to end the constant, pointless bickering.

I'd take the aliens. I'd also likely die in the initial war before they conquer us and enslave the remaining people.

Doesn't matter, tho. We're experts at creating our own aliens.
