Well, as you previously pointed out, we can't expect the nuances of an essay from a tweet so I'm afraid I can't go into the ins and outs of postmodernism here.

Surely you can give me a brief summary?

I could give you a brief summary then you could reply then I could reply and on and on... if knowledge of how broad/narrow the concept is the issue here, I'm sure you'll be able to find that out without my brief summary. My concern is, as I previously mentioned your 1/

unfaithful caricature of such broad concepts. I hear your justification (entertainment) but I see negative impact. 2/

But you still haven't told me how my portrayal was "unfaithful" in any meaningful sense of the term. That is what I'd like to know.

Okay, this is the kind of conversation I would have normally ignored as underlying motivations usually to catch the other/play 'gatcha' game or even disrespectful scorn but since you insist, I'll assume that your intentions are positive & you genuinely want to know what I think.

Your caricature: "Postmodernists deny race & gender but hate white men" Here's why I think ur caricature is unfaithful. Postmodernism is too broad to define into a single thing (never mind as something that exclusively w race & gender (not even gonna go into hate of white men))

Postmodernism is not a framework exclusively of/about gender and race but of epistemology, ontology, ethics and metaphysics in general. In philosophy anyway. Don't forget about postmodern architecture, arts, etc.

Postmodernism in its strongest version denies a grand universal 'truth' or 'reality' independent of discourse and in its weakest, claims that our truths/knowledge etc are culturally/historically situated.

At the core of it, postmodernism, question and criticizes taken for granted norms and perspectives. And given it's broad and wide scope, I think your caricature is unfaithful. That’s my take. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for this, Abeba, but it's all stuff I was aware of. I was not referring to every definition of postmodernism, but a specific one. My actual, nuanced view of it is very similar to the one presented in this article by the mighty @HPluckrose:https://areomagazine.com/2017/03/27/how-french-intellectuals-ruined-the-west-postmodernism-and-its-impact-explained/ …

That's not a view of postmodernism but one that is critical of postmodernism. And here is a short piece (aimed at Dennett's recent piece but I think it generally applicable) of why blaming postmodernism for societal breakdowns is a mistake.http://www.velcro-city.co.uk/postmodernism-and-post-truth/ …

This looks like motte and bailey tactics to me, Abeba. Have you ever heard of the Sokal affair? Please look into this in as much detail as you can to understand the strain of postmodernism that I have a problem with. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokal_affair …
