Generally, if you disagree with someone to the right of you, they'll see you as stupid, and if you disagree with someone to the left of you, they'll see you as evil. Dialogue can often convince a rightist you're not stupid, but can seldom convince a leftist you're not evil.
Perhaps. There's the whole "sheeple" accusation labelled at those who subscribe to orthodoxies. But the left tend to base their arguments on humanitarianism, and the right on pragmatism, hence the different motivations they attribute to those with whom they disagree.
