Generally, if you disagree with someone to the right of you, they'll see you as stupid, and if you disagree with someone to the left of you, they'll see you as evil. Dialogue can often convince a rightist you're not stupid, but can seldom convince a leftist you're not evil.

Maybe it's different 'across the pond,' but over here it's generally the rightists demonizing their opponents as evil, and the leftists ridiculing them as stupid. Your overall point about the effect of those terms on dialogue remains valid, though.

I think Christian conservatives definitely regard those who disagree as evil, but there aren't many of those here in Europe. The main right-leaning movements here are secular conservative/libertarian.

Yes, there is indeed a hateful right in Europe, but it's largely on the fringes (although it does have a significant presence in the south/east, in places like Hungary and Romania).
