I'm not sure that's true. Some of the most depressed people I know are also the most secure. It seems to be *because* they are secure that they have the time to ponder the things that end up depressing them. I think that a little hardship is in fact necessary for happiness.
That's likely true for some unsettling questions, but not others. Things like marriage can cure some anxieties, but it also provides its own. I think the only way to settle all unsettling questions is to constantly distract yourself from them, however that may be.

It's a given that grievances catalyze partisanship. Problem is, there's a tendency to frame grievances within a quasi-religious narrative wherein one becomes certain that one not only recognizes the source of the grievance, but can cure it. This is the essence of partisanship.
