I think it makes sense for the brand of the business to try and limit trolls. A main feature of trolls is to diminish others' online experience. Limiting that seems completely fair game - almost their fiduciary responsibility.

Yeah, but I've always believed that the block button is sufficient to deal with trolls. Let people be the censors of their own experience, and all that.

I didn't think the tick was about prestige. I thought it was about "this person is who they say they are"...nothing more...and it should have nothing to do with their character. If their acct breaks rules then ban the account or have it show up in lower priority in ppls timelines

Absolutely agree. I've never held people in higher regard for having blue checkmarks as I've always known it was simply a verification. But for some reason it has taken on this connotation of authority, which I'm glad it will soon lose.
