No, you're quite right, religious restrictions would make practising Muslims seem less efficient and thus less attractive to employers.

Would the women not be counted as unemployed though? You have to "actively be looking for work" to be part of the labor force.

The UK govt doesn't recognize religion as a valid reason to not work, as far as I can tell, so a woman not working for religious reasons would simply be counted as unemployed.
