The enforced brevity of tweets encourages vitriolic responses in 2 ways: - It prevents tweeters from qualifying opinions with nuance & context, making them seem generalizing & simplistic - It gives people's opinions a peremptory tone, making tweeters seem arrogant & authoritarian
It wasn't always that easy. For instance, during a debate, it was rarely possible to complete a tweet thread before someone else replied, changing the course of the debate. And threads would get lost when 2 people replied to same tweet, etc.
