As you have mentioned before, politics is tribal. It's rare to stand apart speaking truth as one sees it, not burdened by party requirements.

Yes, I think there is room to allow one's heart to become skewed, for example, to desire to help the poor and disabled. But I'm strongly against allowing one's vision to be skewed, as it reduces one's worldview to a mere hallucination.

Yeah, my heart is with the left in that I want to see a world where the strong take care of the weak. However, my head is very much in the centre, because improving the world requires seeing it clearly, rather than how the tribe wants you to see it.
