Academics tend to be extremely ignorant of subjects outside their area of expertise, and this severely limits their expertise.
Fair enough, all forms of spiritualism with the exception of idealism (which comprises a tiny fraction of spiritualism). Anglicanism is very much dualist in nature, which is why Dawkins would have attacked it.
