It does not mean "god is great" but "Allah is greater." It's an expression of Islamic supremacy, sometimes used as a "howdy."https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/926112932915752960 …

It means “God is greater” - a statement of faith. Islam doesn’t differentiate between God and Allah - same guy.

Yes, I know -- I wrote it as I did to specify which god, exactly, they're talking about. Christians/Jews who believe in god are infidels.

Ugh - look up "abrogation," how later violence-commanding Quran bits negate peaceful earlier ones when psychopath Mohammed didn't have power

Abrogation as you describe it is a medieval invention usually associated with ibn Kathir's tafsir, and now favored by jihadis. It is not followed by all Muslims, or even most.

Abrogation is still in practice, or you'd see guys like jihadist who mowed down people on the bike path handing out flowers to "infidels"

Yes it's absolutely in practice, among jihadis. But the vast majority of Muslims don't follow that interpretation of naskh.

In fact, I was just sifting through bin Laden's video library, and found many videos dedicated to spreading the idea of abrogation among moderate Muslims. It is probably the main point of contention between the minority of jihadis and the majority of moderates.

This creates a perception problem in the West. Islam needs a great PR campaign. Seriously.

Absolutely. While it's sane to be concerned about Islamism, there's a lot of misinformation supporting a narrative of a Muslim fifth column. Not only is this wrong, but it's catastrophic for counterterrorist efforts. We need to work *with* Muslims, not against them.
