Yes, I think that the natural consequence of a pivot toward the material is a pivot away from the ideological.

Actually current problem is kids have grown disillusioned with toys. Now they want a shared sense of meaning & purpose—via group identity.

I once read that you can hardly influence people's ideologies with arguments, but acting on emotions may work.
